How I Set Up A New Blog Using GoDaddy and Wordpress
Well HELLO and welcome to my brand new blog. This was surprisingly easy to create, so for my first post I want to share the steps to obtain a register a domain name, sign up for website hosting, install Wordpress, install a new Wordpress theme, then make my first post!
In total it took about 2 hours, not including about an hour and a half wait time for GoDaddy to set up the hosting account and install Wordpress. Here are the steps I used:
- Choose a domain name. I chose to select and register my new domain at GoDaddy.com who is one of the largest and most popular website hosts:
- I highly recommend buying private domain registration to keep your personal registration information private.
- Buy the Wordpress hosting package. I used the WordPress Hosting Economy package. They automatically install Wordpress for you! What could be easier?
- Now you will need to wait for GoDaddy to set up your domain and hosting package. They say about 24 hours, but I waited about 90 minutes. So I would recommend checking after the first hour, then every 30 minutes or as often as you wish. Otherwise you can just check the next day, but I could not wait!!
- Go to your account Dashboard and add your hosting account to your dashboard for your new domain name.
- The Hosting Control Center should display. If you can not find it try My Products >> Hosting.
- Verify that you can access the Wordpress admin page.
You are now up and running with your very own blog!!! Have Fun!! The first thing I did on the dashboard was to upgrade to Wordpress to 2.9, which was very quick. There was a link at the top of the page suggesting this action, so if you do not see the link do not worry about this step.
- Click Manage Account.
- Click on Setup Account.
- Follow steps to select a user name and password.
- Choose an email address and blog title.
- Follow thru remaining steps to confirmation page.
I clicked on Appearance on the left dashboard, then Themes. I selected a new theme, installed, and activated it.
Then I began typing my very first blog entry. Hope this helps you get started blogging also. Let me know if any questions about those steps.
UPDATE: If you are looking for an even cheaper wordpress blog web host, I did some research and put together a list of web hosting companies that have quick Wordpress installs, some cost less than GoDaddy:
Hopefully this list will make it much easier to get started writing your first blog post without needing to do so much research.
